| Question: How do I become a donor? Answer: Tell your family that you want to become a donor. If you just sign a donor card and don't talk to your family about becoming a donor it wont be enough. Make sure to inform them of your wishes. Question: Will the doctors be tempted to not give patients a fighting chance if they know they are a donor? Answer: No. Doctors will do whatever they can to save the patient and remember doctors who determine whether the patient is brain dead isn't the same as the doctors that are involved in transplantation. Question: Will my religion disapprove of me wanting to become a donor? Answer: Most religions support organ donation and view it as an honorable act. Other religions think of it as a personal choice. Question: Can I choose which organs/tissues I want to donate? Answer: Yes, you are able to specify if you want only certain organs or if you want to donate all of them. Question: If I donate my organs will the recipient find out who I am? Answer: The only way the recipient can find out who you are is if you both agree. If you don't then it will remain anonymous. Question: If I become a donor can I change my mind? Answer: Yes, all you have to do is tear up the donor card and let your family know about your decision. Question: Can I become a donor if I am younger then 18? Answer: Yes you can, but you must have parent or guardian consent and make sure your family knows. |
