Katie's Story
"My Mom was born with a collapsed lung and a hole in her heart. Well she lived her whole
life like that. When she was about 35 she an accident and had a hard time breathing. She
was soon put on the "waiting list" and started to wear oxygen. She became tired really fast
and was not able to do so much anymore. About two years latershe was called for the
transplant. She was to recieve a double lung transplant and fix her heart. She was expected
to only live a couple of more months so we were happy. Well since they were desperet they
put lungs of a man who was 6'0 tall into my mom who was only 4'11 tall. They had probelms
and had to size the lungs down. well while she was left open till they could size the lungs
down she got a virus and they could not find it. Well she was in the hospital for a long time
and a week before she was suppose to come home she had two heart attacks and died. I
was only 13 years old. I am telling you this story because may be if more people had been a
donor the hospital would have a better chance of finding the right lungs for her. So i sm
telling everyone to please become a donor because it really can save a life. I now have to
live my most important years of my life without my mom. Please dont do it to someone else!
